Cosplay Costume Alterations Empty
PostSubject: Cosplay Costume Alterations   Cosplay Costume Alterations Icon_minitimeSat Jun 28, 2008 1:20 am

And, my next topic of discussion, cosplaying.

I'm making a costume from a pattern, we're altering it a lot, but I'm not sure how to cut down fabric too well.

The pattern's smallest size is a size 10, and, sadly, I'm no where near that D: So this is goign to take a lot of work. Unlike my last try, when it was basically a tube all the way around, and I could just sew in more along the seams to make it fit, this one uses brocade and has interfacing. I'd also like to keep some of the brocade leftover, just in case I want to add some more finishing touches.

So, for any of you who are good with these types of things, think you could try to help me out with how to size patterns to fit? Otherwise, I'll probably start looking myself, and I'll start posting some places in case someone else has this problem. Or comes to this problem, too. Hehehe.

Remember in sewing that you can always take away but you really can't add. Iff your outfit ends up too big you can always fix it, but if it's too small, you'll have to make a new one.
If you check out cosplay.com you should find some information on altering patterns.

Cosplay means costume play, but that sounds less fun and isn't as easy to say.

It's basically when you dress up as a character (anime, manga, video game, etc) or person, too. It's a loose term that's usually only given when people are dressing up to look like a certain figure from something in the Japanese sub culture. That's the easiest way that most people will define it.

Cosplaying is basically when you have a costume worn to show that you are that person, or are really representing a certain aspect or look.

Cosplay actually doesn't even have to be about Japan, it's just normally associated with it because that's kind how it came about, it's also more popular with the franchise.

But, since I basically went waaaay in depth there, I apologize for ruining the word for anyone silent

So.. basically, cosplay is a nice word for dressing up, costume wise.

----

Me, I'm going for the more clothing style approach of cosplay, fashion wise, anyway. I'm too lazy to be Rider again T_T and it's hot in July wearing leather and long purple hair.

Basically a costume. Gotcha.

I went and browsed through the cosplay at Metrocon... and it really didn't look good in my opinion. Question though, what if you wanted to have a costume as a school uniform, which pretty much consists of a jacket and slacks, would bought items be considered cosplay?

Of course. Some people buy their entire costumes and it works.
